The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all.

Piedmont HealthCare was recognized as a Gold Sponsor for the Relay for Life event held earlier this month. Held at the Iredell County Fairgrounds, the annual event is one of the featured fundraisers and also serves to honor and remember those who are affected by cancer.

Piedmont HealthCare sponsored the entertainment, the Catalinas, and raised an additional $5600 for the Iredell County chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The money raised through Relay For Life events helps the American Cancer Society’s mission: to save lives and celebrate life. Every day.

The May 19th event kicked off the evening with a “Survivors Lap” – a celebration of those fighting cancer and survivors who have beaten the disease. The first lap honors their strength.

Many caregivers walked with their loved ones during the “Caregivers Lap.” The Relay for Life event is meant to bring together all those who are touched by a cancer diagnosis, which includes their family, friends and others who support their recovery.

The Luminaria Ceremony provided a thoughtful and powerful moment to give attendees the opportunity not only to grieve but to offers hope and comfort. Each luminaria represented a loved one lost to cancer and honored survivors.

Relay for Live concluded at 5:30 am on May 20th with a Closing Ceremony. It was a time to recall what the local community has accomplished together, remember lives lost, and reaffirm an ongoing commitment to end the pain and suffering of cancer.

Piedmont HealthCare wishes to thank all of those who participated and contributed to the 2017 Relay for Life event and for making this a meaningful and successful event.
